Jealousy, That Green Eyed Monster

We all have heard that old saying " I have a jealous bone that runs through my whole body". That being said, do we really understand the impact that being jealous has on our lives. Watch children at times, especially when they are use to just having only mom's or dad's attention all to themselves. When another child comes into play that monster jealousy will show in the way they now behave.

Women often have that jealous bone come into play with their husbands. If they see him giving too much attention to another female, or if another female is trying too hard to get their attention. Jealously monstrous head will appear. Often causing discord amongst their relationship. As I watched a reality show on t.v. the other night I saw the effects of how jealousy can tear apart something that is meant to be a beautiful thing. Ladies, I hate to tell ya but WE are the worlds worse for this. Lets go and examine what the Bible says on this subject and lets shed some light on to it.

In Proverbs Proverbs 6:34

For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not
spare in the day of vengeance.

God tells us that jealousy turns to rage. It makes us mad, it makes us act in ways we shouldn't act. The definition of rage is violent, uncontrollable anger. If you are jealous you are not thinking correctly and you may act out in ways that make you violent, and you may be uncontrolled. Just as in Genesis 37 Joesph's brothers were jealous of him. They couldn't stand the way that their father treated him, they hated him the bible says. So what did they do, they told his father he was dead, but in reality they sold him as a slave to get him out of the picture. See jealousy makes people do things they normally would not do. It made them forget about the love they should have for him and the heartache that they would cause their father. They only had rage and vengeance toward their brother and was not thinking rational.

In Proverbs 14:30

A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the
rottenness of the bones.

To have a sound heart means not to have any jealousy about it. If your heart is "sound" it is Entire; unbroken; not shaky, split or defective, Undecayed; whole; perfect, or not defective; We are to be be morally and physically healthy in our heart. A heart that is sound is made so by the grace of God. Free from wrath, anger and envy. Its kind, and friendly.

The verse goes on to say envy is the rottenness of the bones. Envy means To feel uneasiness, mortification or discontent, at the sight of superior excellence, reputation or happiness enjoyed by another; to repine at another's prosperity; to fret or grieve one's self at the real or supposed superiority of another, and to hate him on that account. Envy and Jealousy go hand in hand, it eats away at a mans physical and moral body. It shows in how they react and behave to those they have these problems with. It weakens and consumes him to the point of destruction, in other words like the old saying goes "rotten to the bone".

What things make a person jealous or envious?

Do you consider yourself a jealous person?

What would be the best way to deal with your feelings of jealousy?

God speaks to us though our hearts and minds. Will you rely on faith to bring you though these things that can stand in the way of your growth? Allow HIS leadership, through listening to what HE tells us in our hearts and mind. Send that green eyed monster packing. Allow Christ to dwell instead.
